Natural brown hair with blonde highlights?

Right now, my hair is short and black. I think it's too risky to bleach it so I'm growing it out to my natural color, (dark brown) and cutting off the black tips. Then I wanted to get some blonde highlights and I was wondering if I could acheive this goal with an at home highlighting kit? Or should I get it bleached professionally?

i think you should go to a professional and get highlights that blend better...otherwise it could turn out blotchy and look very unnatural

I have tried to highlight my hair myself and unfortunately I have failed... I've tries several attempts, but still failed. When I highlight others hair w/ a home kit it works and turns out great, but doing it by myself I wasn't able to achieve. I believe that it's best to get your hair done in a salon, and besides w/ darker hair it's always hardest to dye w/ a home styling kit....

I have black hair and it never comes out the way I wanted... so to save you the stress and hassle, get it done at a salon, they'll help you decide what kinds of highlights best describe your features....

Just for the advice I wouldnt suggest brown with blond highlights because it looks tacky, and believe me because I am a professional hairsylist. I have done hair for many celebraties like, Hilary Duff, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. However I had nothing to do with Lindsay's deciding to change her hair color from red to blond and then black. YUCK! It is really bad for your hair when you die it so much. you avidently have died it before so i would suggest just letting it grow back to your normal color and cut off the black ends it would make your hair look a lot healthier.

I advise you to get is professionally done. When bleaching dark hair it sometimes comes out too blonde to where it will look grey or brassy. So your best bet is to get it professionally done. And I would try for a light carmel color.
