Can I do highlights over dyed hair?

I just dyed my hair a dark blonde and I'd like it to have more tones, can I do highlights over the dye?? It turned a little reddish and I was hoping highlights would give the illusion of it being more blonde

I have dyed my hair 3 times this year and had professional highlights once and did highlights once myself before that--so it's getting a little overprocessed, but overall is in pretty good shape

Do you mean this year as in 2007, or this year as in the past year?

If you mean 2007, then I'd say give your poor hair time to heal! If you do much more to your hair, it's going to get overprocessed (you admitted this is starting already) and brittle and frizzy.

If you mean in the past year, then go ahead and get some highlights. But go to a professional stylist! It will be more expensive, but they know what they're doing. They will be able to tell you the best way to make your hair golden instead of brassy.

You shouldn't have a problem doing some highlights in your hair. At the salon they always do two processes on my hair before I'm done. Go pretty light on the highlights so the red gets downplayed and do really small strands if you can or have someone else do it for you so you get all-over coverage. I'm sure it will turn out great, just make sure and do a conditioning treatment or protein spray afterward.

I would say do it but wait about 2-3 weeks from date when you dyed hair....if its already light then you prob wont have to bleach it but if it doesnt seem to get lighter then your stylist would prob have to bleach it to get it lighter...I totally would say DONT BLEACH hair or STRIP it that will totally damage your hair most stylist do it to get what their customers want....mine refuses to damage my hair so last time I wanted it lighter she made me grow it out first and then lightened it....I think thats a true stylist...but that just me... good luck!
