I am asian. I have dark black hair and I was thinking about getting blonde highlights in my hair...do you think it will look good? If you can, plz send me a link showing me a pic of what it will look like, or give me another color to stick with. I've just always like blonde hair and my best friend has blonde hair, so it will really make us closer cuz we can like crack jokes about it and stuff.

Ok, well, I think you should stick to your natural hair color. Black is a very nice color, and looks pretty. If you absolutely can't resist highlights, light pink would look cool with black hair. You should like your hair, but pink is a funky and unique color to put in black. Red would be the second-best color though.

I don't think that putting in bloud highlights would be a good idea because it would look tacky and not at all natural. I would do maybe low lights or some dark hair lights.

I don't think it would look bad at all as long as you go to someone who knows what they're doing. And as long as you don't get too big of strands highlighted. I suggest that you don't do bleach because it will contrast too much, when highlights are supposed to blend in. Look for a lighter brown (almost blonde) color and against your black hair it will look lighter than it is. Whatever you do, DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. I did that once and ended up with blue hair...I'm talking SMURF blue. Be careful about choosing your stylist...and good luck.

I have seen Asians with blond, copper, auburn, ash, mid brown, and blue-black highlights and they all looked great (I'll bet they were done by professionals, not home kits).

Go with what you want - remember, if you really hate it your hairdresser can dye it back to your natural colour. Its just hair, not permanent like a tattoo.

Very hard to say,generally speaking due to the skin tone on asians it is hard to get away with blond highlights .I'm myself asian and also happen to be a hairdresser .I do have a lot of blond highlights(not yellow,not orange but pure blonde ).Lots of my clients ask me to do their hair color the same than mine and always get compliments from stranger and fellow hairstylist.The key is is to get your hair a pure blonde without overprocessing and breaking it (lots of work).Like i said due to the skin tone very few people get away with it but that 's what you want go for it ,at least if you don't like it you did yourself a favor by scratching an itch.You are not going for the natural look anyway from black to blond or red for the matter so go ahead experiment but get an advice from a professional hairdresser before you do

I'm a strawberry blonde/light auburn sort of shade and when I was younger (15 or so) I used to have baby pink highlights in it.

The bizarre thing is that they blended really well so people kept thinking it was somehow natural (in the style of a strawberry roan horse) and it drove me crazy!!

Depending on your style and the actual colour of your hair it could look good, but try and get some wool or ribbon in the colour you're thinking of and see what it would actually look like in your hair!

No. I think it would look great with a deep purple. But I have red (unnatural) and I sprayed some of it pink, and it looked really bad. I like the blonde highlights idea, too, that's what I'm considering. Or maybe blonde and black streaks. All sound like they'd look really good. Just make sure you don't go overboard. That's the biggest mistake people make. Just put it on the underside like you said, that way it's like a subtle surprise. Hope this helps.

If you mean 2007, then I'd say give your poor hair time to heal! If you do much more to your hair, it's going to get overprocessed (you admitted this is starting already) and brittle and frizzy.

If you mean in the past year, then go ahead and get some highlights. But go to a professional stylist! It will be more expensive, but they know what they're doing. They will be able to tell you the best way to make your hair golden instead of brassy.

If you put the two together, without taking the blonde out first, you'll look like a new version of The Bride of Frankenstein...GAD! Having the red will produce the same result in swimming as the blonde highlights because of the chlorine. Both are considered "dying" your hair.

Do what makes you feel good about yourself. I myself once had spiked red hair (fire engine red), I have also shaved all my hair off, and bleached it platinum. All this was done for the sake of style. I finally found the short clipper cut I am comfortable with and use my natural color.

It's ok to try some things out. believe me the embarasment of a bad choice only lasts a little while, and if you get a picture you can laugh at yourself down the road. All in all it's about you and how the look makes you feel.

depends on the colour of your skin.....if you are fair then blond highlights look gr8 , if you r wheatish complexion, then dont go for it , and if you are on the darker side, then copperwould look hot. anyways it's just hair and it grows ...but if you are scared try on a strand of your hair , not on top but inside , where visibility is minimum, if you like it then go for it

Also you can mix two different shades alternately ...that if done well looks real hot!

They would be very pretty, but you might want to start with caramel colors instead of "bleached blonde" highlights. Don't start with heavy highlights. Ask your hairdresser to pull just a few strands, so you can see how you like the new color. If you like it and want a little more, you can always go back. My hair is naturally very curly, and I have had highlights. It adds to the definition of my hair. Just don't over-do it.

Sure you can. The bleaching process would be the process you want to worry about damaging your hair with. What I would look for is an ammonia free color (I think L'Oreal has one) that you want. Or if you want to go funky, hit up Hot Topic or the nearest beauty supply and look for a fun color like hot pink or neon green. (: Either way, if you're really worried about the integrity of your hair, just buy a deep conditioning treatment and once you're done dying it, let that conditioner do all the work.

yes. although i wouldnt recommend it. depending on what color you want them and what color they are-being that bleach was used they might not turn out the color you want. honestly i would try it first with a demi permanent color that way if its awful-it will wash out. then if thats the case go to a professional.

im in highschool, and i definetly wouldnt start highlighting your hair now. especially since its only january, for one thing. but when it gets to be september, i would not recomend highlighting or coloring your hair. the natural look is BETTER, epecially for someone at youre age.

having hair just past your shoulders or to your armpits would be really cute for a middle schooler. add long layers!

why would you want to improve your rep? youre only in 6th or 5th grade, right? just remember to put your best foot forward and to try out everything. be a positive person and you'll be set.

Ask your friends. I wouldn't try to make too big of an impression. Who are you trying to impress? School is for learning, anyhow. I was picked on through all of my schooling. But don't think I didn't watch others. The fads were constantly changing, so it's hard to keep up with everything. Long hair is fine. A wedge cut can look cute. ponytails, pigtails, french braids.

There's nothing to really improve your reupation on. If you're nice, continue being nice. If you're a snob - well - you're not top dog when entering middle school.

It really depends on YOUR personality and what YOU want to do. When you're in school - there is really no one to impress except for the opposite sex and your friends. Teachers won't give you good grades for your hair. Sorry to burst your bubble, but school is for education, not fashion - school turns into fashion when you are majoring in college to be a fashion designer - and even then - it's not all about hair. That would be cosmetology school.

I used to have the usual shiny healthy straight Asian hair, a bad highlighting job however, left my hair badly damaged, brittle, and frizzy. It's been a few years and my hair has gotten a little better, but there are still coarse and frizzy hairs abound in my mane. Is this permanent? I really hope the follicles aren't permanently damaged so that the hair will grow to be kinky and frizzy despite what genetics I was born with. So are there any suggestions to what I can do to my hair now? And will my hair grow back into it's original state? A real hair guru is needed or any help would be much appreciated. Yes, and you can actually help your damaged hair by using joico's K-pak reconstruct. I think its like 20 bucks but it works wonders. It fixed my hair and i have been dying it for 5-6 years.

i been a hair dresser for 10 years now and its never good to highight yur hair it will never be the sameee but it will get a lot better then what it has been try useing anti frizz conditinor and leave it in for about 30 min wash it out n yur hair should be less frizzy and wayy softer..if yu ever wanna die yu hair make sure its semi permint (the wash out kind) and never high light it yur self the box colors willl damage your hairr..alsoo tryyy not to flat iron it or curl it all its gonna do it make is more frizzy..

your hair should grow back, because when it grows its fresh new hair not the old damaged one. i suggest not dying you hair anymore, and using a leave in conditionar and a hair repair treatment. john friedas daily norishment leave in condt. is really good and can be found at pharmacys. and paul mitchels hair repair creme is really good. i got mine at a salon but ive seen his products at target adn pharmacys also. both of these should help. I highly recoment the paul mitchel for your case though. my bangs were fried on one side last year from straightening them and i used this , and they have never been healthier.

I have highlighted my hair before with the kit from the drug store, I did it last time during the winter and I was very satisfied with how it looked.

I want to do it again except this summer I plan to go to my grandma's place on the beach ALOT and my hair would get very exposed to saltwater often. I just want to know if that would make them last less or if it would do anything to change the color so if you please know feel free to answer.

Sun and saltwater will both make your highlights fade faster, as well as drying out your hair. One way to protect them is to wear a hat, or use a deep conditioner and leave it on while you're at the beach. (Girls do this all the time.)

Otherwise, maybe just wait till after the summer. Being out in the sun and in saltwater will tend to bleach your hair naturally, so see if you like how that looks.

salt water will not alter the color at all, just stay away from chlorine swimming pools. keep in mind that the increased sun exposure will further lighten your hair. you can buy sunblock for your hair if your concerned.

I can't stand highlights on men, I'm really not a fan of the meterosexual man. I think they should stay clean, shave their faces, trim 'down there', have a nice short haircut and dress well but more than that I can't handle. The worst for me is when guys get highlights and blow dry their hair. Manicures, pedicures, facials every once in a while I can almost handle but waxing their arms and visiting the hairdresser more than I do. No way! Give me a real man please.

Bright highlights in black hair?

I have wavy, naturally black hair I'm thinking about getting some bright teal or fuschia highlights in it (something that will really stand out). I have three questions:

1) Where should I put them? My hair is currently a little above my shoulders and cut into many short layers w/ sidewept bangs. I'm thinking about coloring my entire fringe with some additional highlights framing my face. Any suggestions(pictures are nice too)?

2) Will these colors work? I've heard that with black hair you must bleach your hair first before the highlights show up, but my friend got purple highlights in her black hair and it showed up fine w/o her having to bleach it first.

1. get a few small ones in your bangs (considering you have full, sideswept ones). and then random ones (some chunky, some thin) all over. i think that would look best.

2. yeah, they should work. i got my hair from a dark brown to an almost white blond in one time. all they did was use a product to lift up the hair's natural color. im not sure if it had a bleach content, but all they said was that it "lifted up my hair's color". then, to make it the right color, they add the toner. which, in this case, would probably be the fushcia or teal color.

3. you should try explaining to them EXACTLY what you want, and show them a picture if you can find one. that helps ALOT to have a pic. dont be afraid to tell them whatever you want done, and be reall specific if you want it done the way you want.

and simply tell them the overall look you're going for.

When you get highlights, it is permanent, so when your hair grows, you will see your roots. If you want to cover your roots, then yes you will have to keep highlighting. If you don't like the highlight then you can just dye your hair back to match your natural color. On dark auburn hair, a honey or caramel highlight would look pretty and wouldn't look as harsh as bleach blonde would. Highlighting your hair is bleaching it, so yes that is damaging, but they have special color care shampoos now to help restore the processed hair. Good luck, and if you decide to do it, get it professionally done!

they don't damage your hair anymore like they used to do...as for how long they last: they will get lighter within 1 month...a nice color for dark hair that I like is "copper" ...you'll have to highlight them about every 2 months because of the roots. Just use a shampoo for colored hair.

If you screw up your hair dying it, do NOT try to fix it yourself. Call your hairdresser ASAP and have her fix it. You'll just end up really damaging your hair.

Apparently you used a color with cool tones and it "grabbed " the base color. Take some baking soda and mix in with your shampoo to make a creamy basty feel to it, and shampoo your hair with that. you honestly shoudlnt really be dying it again for another six weeks, it will most likely dry out your hair.

Of course it does damage, any chemical treatment does, and some "natural" ones like henna do too. If you want to minimize the damage, have it professionally done by someone who understands your hair type. Basically what I mean by this is if you have a texture that typically responds poorly to chemical treatments, such as african or some asian textures, make sure that you go to a salon that specializes in your hair type so they don't screw it up. A salon that usually serves caucasian hair types may not be experienced enough or equipped to deal with other textures. That being said, a well-trained stylist will be able to work with any texture. After you get it done, ask your stylist how to take care of it. She may recommend deep conditioning treatments, or she may recommend no special treatments at all.

I highlight my hair a "lot" but I always make sure I condition it with olive oil which will replace the natural oils I am taking out when I color it. It gives my hair great shine and manageability. Regardless if your using bleach they have a Vol. 30 and 40. 30 is just a bit better when highlighting but it will not get as light as 40.

I would try some nautural 100% pure natural henna , it will be darker on the areas that you have highlighted and give the brown some depth of color .

It would be fun and a safe easy way to change your hair for the winter.

Well my hair is naturally brown, so I asked my stylist to spice it up a bit. She but dark brown undertones towards the bottom of my hair, and then she put some caramel colored ones at the roots and mostly towards the top of my hair. It actually turned out really nice and it looked as if my hair flowed from caramel to dark in a really cool way. Everyone I knew loved it.

I have dark hair to. I have found that using a dark-medium red tone as well as a light brown and maybe a little medium blond all over your head should look really nice. Nothing to drastic if you go all blond might be too dramatic especially if you have had dark hair all your life. Maybe start off small then go bigger.

If you dont wanna dyeyour whole head get a dark red (not bright lipstick red) or try that red and dirty blonde. Relaxed hair is hair that has been chemically treated with a relaxing cream, usually this is done by women of color to straighten kinky hair.

And I would go with staggered, its less harsh, and will grow out better if you don't like it.

to make your side swept bangs a little more naturally highlighted..take a small section and leave it out and then take a small middle setion and place your highlights on a diagonal...going with the side its being swept to. when u take this section weave some pieces out so that it doesnt look like a chunk in your bangs.

I went pretty wild with it and covered my entire already highlighted caramel hair and dyed dark hair with it. I left conditioner on my hair when finished, sat under a heater for 20 minutes to let the conditioner penetrate and then went to sleep. I always wake up in the middle of the night after putting trying to sleep with conditioner in because conditioner makes my head itch. I shockingly like the auburn locks I gave myself, very beautiful...and I am glad I let the conditioner sit in! I don't think I will wash my hair for at least 3 days to let natural oils heal my scalp and hair...but my main question is, when I put all my hair down (which is cut in a pob, posh bob) I have a blotched dye job on my right side from where I didn't let the hair dye sit long enough I suppose, I was getting scared because I know the formula had bleach in it and would be potent on my already processed hair. So since I like the color all over and am just a little insecure about the blotched part, should I

im in highschool, and i definetly wouldnt start highlighting your hair now. especially since its only january, for one thing. but when it gets to be september, i would not recomend highlighting or coloring your hair. the natural look is BETTER, epecially for someone at youre age.

having hair just past your shoulders or to your armpits would be really cute for a middle schooler. add long layers!

why would you want to improve your rep? youre only in 6th or 5th grade, right? just remember to put your best foot forward and to try out everything. be a positive person and you'll be set.

Ask your friends. I wouldn't try to make too big of an impression. Who are you trying to impress? School is for learning, anyhow. I was picked on through all of my schooling. But don't think I didn't watch others. The fads were constantly changing, so it's hard to keep up with everything. Long hair is fine. A wedge cut can look cute. ponytails, pigtails, french braids.

There's nothing to really improve your reupation on. If you're nice, continue being nice. If you're a snob - well - you're not top dog when entering middle school.

It really depends on YOUR personality and what YOU want to do. When you're in school - there is really no one to impress except for the opposite sex and your friends. Teachers won't give you good grades for your hair. Sorry to burst your bubble, but school is for education, not fashion - school turns into fashion when you are majoring in college to be a fashion designer - and even then - it's not all about hair. That would be cosmetology school.
