now it looks like i have orange highlights. its copper on top then blondish on the bottom. It looks very weird. any suggestions on what hair dye I can use to put all over. Maybe the highlights can turn into a light brown color and it'll look like i have black hair and brownish highlights? might i add im trying to grow out the black hair..what color dye and from what brand should i use to correct my HAIR! HELP!

I suggest this because not everyone can afford professional stylists. Obviously, if you could afford it, you would have done that to start with.

This is risky. First, condition your hair by slathering it with any conditioner, wrapping it in plastic, and waiting an hour for it to absorb. I understand, from a stylist, that sometimes Dawn dishwashing liquid can lighten a color that is too dark. You could try it, but it is a little harsh on your hair.

Then, I would suggest a light/medium brown, "deposit only" (meaning "no lift") color. It should have a blue/purple base to neutralize the red/orangeness.

If this fails, condition again and try a medium brown all over. Be sure it has no red/auburn tones in it. I would go with semi-permanent color so that as it gradually fades you can go to lighter colors while your hair grows out.

Good luck.

Peace be with you!

aaah, i used to have black hair and it took months to finally go lighter

use a clairifying shampoo

whatever you do... don't use pantene pro-v, it has wax that coats your hair strands making the color not fade as fast

go to a stylist and talk to her about it, they would have to use a lot of toners on your hair

or you can always strip your hair, but that is EXTREMELY damaging to your hair... so only if you dare...

i would suggest just to go to a stylist (a good one) don't do anything else to your hair

good luck!

It's blondish on the bottom because that's where it's more coarse.. The color won't hold because of dying, blow drying, etc..

Don't do anymore.. Let the hairdresser fix this so your hair won't be ruined and you'd prob get a conditioning treatment there as well..

The only suggestion I have is that you give your poor hair a break.

You have place the hair under tremendous strain and stress with all the chemicals that you have been doing at home.

I would suggest the following:-

1. Cut your hair short;

2. Go to professionals and have your hair stripped of all the black colour;

3. Good treatment is also recommendable.

4. Start from scratch and please stay away from black, such a hard and intense colour (or is black a colour?)

5. If you still want dark hair rather try dark brown and add either copper and red stripes - preferably by professionals.

Go to a place similar to Sally Beauty Supply.

They will have some sort of "stripping" agent. Ask the clerk for a product to strip the colour out. Also get a protein filler so that the stripping agent won't do TOO much damage to your hair.

The clerk should be knowledgable enough to know how to use it, and she can explain it to you. You might take a pad and paper with you to write it down.

Strip the dye, then do the protein treatment.

After that, you should be good to dye your hair other colours... but first you need to strip out as much of the black as you can.

The strip most likely won't take out all of your black, but it will take out enough that it shouldn't be a huge issue when it comes to redying.

Be careful with black! It's REALLY hard to get out.

First, stop dying your hair!! How long was your hair to begin with? If you dyed it black then tried to add copper highlights , you might have to types of chemicals that mixed wrong if you didnt wait long enough between each process.(You know, like when you see some chicks with green looking streaks). You need to have a stylist give you a consultation and tell you what they can do for you. If you try to add another color, it might end up looking like@#$%^. Since you have a lot of color now, you really need to condition your hair every week. Find a conditioner designed for color treated hair. You dont want your hair to break off....

I don't suggest stripping the black out . Just let the black grow off as you've been doing. Maybe try coloring your hair chocolate brown, of course the black part will still be there but the chocolate brown will blend. Cut your hair as much as you can stand or keep trimming it,eventually the black will be gone.Good luck

Girl I know this problem all to well.I have been putting drug store and walmart black hair dye on my hair for years...When I finally wanted a change I ran into a BIG problem...You as did I have 2 choices-One wait for it to grow out or 2 get it bleached. Now regular bleach will take it out damage the hair and you risk it all falling out or breaking off.If you are lucky you will end up with only some damage but orange and yellow hair.I tried the at home thing and you will be running fast to a hair dresser or be buying a new box of black.See the thing is -to get that yellow-orange color out you need a toner that can take it to a blond color,if you really dont know what to use you are stuck.Well I finally stumbled across several great products.A familey friend is in beauty school and wanted to take a chance on my hair to prove her skills. She used only aveda products to remove the black. We started last week and the process took 2 days in salon time. The first day she used Aveda bleach to get the black out-now any bleach you use WILL cause damage no matter what, but this bleach let my hair in better condition than any I have used thus far.She used a conditioner by Aveda that contains a toner to get some of the red/orange out.She let me go for 3 days to give my hair a rest.On the 4th she applied bleach to only parts that were still a dark color, maily the ends of my hair (she did this so my whole head would be one color).Once this was done she did a little more toner that took me to an all-over yellow blond. Now it was time for the new color. She used Aveda dye in a Ash blonde and a light brown and applied it so I would have soft high-lights.She gave me an Aveda deep conditioner to use every other day for a week. After YEARS of all that black color my hair is now a beautiful brown with soft blonde highlights!Im very impressed with their product! Now as for you...I did get this for free since I know her and I was just for "practice".But they are still fairly cheap when you find a school and let the students do your hair...This whole process will cost about 45 dollars when done by a student opposed to the 200-300 you would spend at a regular salon...The teacher does make sure all is well and the whole process has to be varified by the teacher.Just go to Aveda.com and look for a school in your area.Call and make an appointment. Now if you really want to do it at home although I dont reccomend it,you just have to keep in mind that you need more than just bleach. You need-

A good bleach

Good toner

New color (dont use box color, use ones at sallys where you buy devoloper and color by themselfs)

Deep conditioner (dont use to often after process use every other day for 1-2 weeks)

Research products online before you buy,try to go to the store knowing what you need.

Dont use box color ever again...You never know what you are getting.Box color is much harder to get out than ones you buy seperatly. If you do have the urge to go dark...go for a deep dark brown...Its less harsh than black and easier to take out.I wish you the very best of luck and hope I helped!
