I want to dye my hair from blond highlights to a darker color but i'm broke and can't go t

i currently have naturally light brown hair and have blond highlights that are quickly growing out! basically, my roota are showing and i have no $ to update the highlights professionally right now. so i figure i will box-dye it...however there was this time i went from light to dark myself 2 years ago and my hair turned GREEN!!! what did i do wrong before to cause this? how do i aviod green or orange hair this time! HELP!

You probably used an "ash" color. Ash+blonde=green. I would suggest a semi-permanent hair color like Clairol's Natural Instincts. The blonde will soak up the color, and it won't change the rest of your natural color because it only coats the hair. It should cost less than $10 and you can get it just about anywhere. (Drug store, grocery store, retail chain) Good luck!

Do a neutral shade. At Sally Beauty, I really like Wella Color Charm or Ion Color Brilliance.

Don't do ash right now bc that will increase the green cast.

You might even be able to mix in a bit of red with the neutral, but be very careful.

Do a strand test first and always go a shade lighter just in case.

As you have experianced they can go funny make sure you read the box and on the back it should have a color scheme.

If it doesn't show your hair color on there then look at another box but if it doesn't on any then only the hairdresser will be able to do it.

The color scheme normally looks like this but i've done words where ther should be a little box which should have a pic of hair in a shade

Your color -e.g blonde

to

The color it -e.g Brown

will come out

as

There should be 3 or more of them i've only used the colors blonde and brown as an example i don't know what color it will turn out as.

Ive heard that you should put a 'ginger' 'redish' colour on the blonde before goin dark. this is to tone it down slightly ,

then once you have done that put a darker colour on .

if it doesnt cover completly you may have to put the darker colour on twice.
