I'm thinking about highlighting my hair, because it's gone a little winterdark. Any suggestions for DIY blonde highlighting that won't dry my hair out or burn my scalp? I usually don't have allergies, but I've had dry hair before and don't wanna get the same problem again.

sorry but no highlights will leave your hair feeling smooth. all i could reccomend is to use a LOT of conditioner.

you could use a pretreatment on your hair but i would suggest getting it professionally done.
Just don't do it, wait til summer.
My advice is to go to a good reputable salon + don't risk playing about at home, particularly with lightening + bleaching. I have had personal experience of blonde gone wrong %26amp; have had to get most of my hair cut off due to damage. (This was a very bad hairdresser on home-call, rather than me myself. Damage made the hair so coarse + porous it lost all it's natural curl + bounce so I gone from mid back beautiful curls to just under the ears + hair is still not fully restored to health but is a temporary compromise lest I be scalped.)
Also for winter it can be worth working with a darker look by changing one's make up a little (say deeper lipstick in red, plum tones) %26amp; lighten %26amp; brighten again for Spring/summer.

I have dark hair. i want highlights and a lighter color. i do not want to dye my hair though. Is there anything i can do?
Someone told me to use diluted lemon juice as a rinse, let it soak for a few minutes, then wash it out.
But I never tried it and I would ask someone who knows hair before trying it.
Stay in the sun- it's a natural way to lighten your hair. Don't forget to wear sunscreen though!

well my hair is naturally dark brown. what i get to lighten my hair is kelly clarksons hair on her 1st album cover where it has blonde. and red highlights. and the rest is dark. it looks amazing and everyone loves my hair like that.
Go for swimming under sun and dont shower after u swim, after certain time the chlorine and the sun wil make ur hair blonde, its up to u u may not want it though. put sunblocks too!
My hair is dark brown and curly, and i have a moderately tan skin tone, but i don't know what color highlights i should get.
I want something fun, maybe a shade of blue, red, OR purple. I just don't know what color would look best. Also, it doesn't have to be those colors, those were just the first colors i had in mind that i liked.
OH DARN ...if i knew what product i used for mine (magenta streeks) i would so tell you (my hair is like yours only grlyer..and more wavy) its like, Awsome, it came out great. Do you want permanent? I'd say blue if you want to be crazy for a week, but blonde if its till you cut yer hair...Just get it wild and blond...haha.

If you dont wanna dyeyour whole head get a dark red (not bright lipstick red) or try that red and dirty blonde. If you dont mind dying your whole head do black with blue highlight, blonde with black or brown,or black with silver you'd be the first just dont do too much silver or you might look old.LoL but make sure they streak it you dont want to look like a cheeta. good luck !!!!!!!
Do a bleach blonde. I have Dark brown hair and put red highlights in it and you could hardley tell, so then i did purple and bleache blonde and it looked really good. Blue would be pretty cool too. But if you do red do a blonde color too that would look awesome i think. Good luck.
I think you should put some carmel hightlights throughout your hair,with maybe a touch of red. It will definately change your look without going to drastic at first.

Hi lights on curly hair looks really cool. Go for it! and in the end, it's only hair. It is nice to have a change. It can be cut or coloured over if you don't like it. Be brave!!

Do what makes you feel good about yourself. I myself once had spiked red hair (fire engine red), I have also shaved all my hair off, and bleached it platinum. All this was done for the sake of style. I finally found the short clipper cut I am comfortable with and use my natural color.
It's ok to try some things out. believe me the embarasment of a bad choice only lasts a little while, and if you get a picture you can laugh at yourself down the road. All in all it's about you and how the look makes you feel.
depends on the colour of your skin.....if you are fair then blond highlights look gr8 , if you r wheatish complexion, then dont go for it , and if you are on the darker side, then copperwould look hot. anyways it's just hair and it grows ...but if you are scared try on a strand of your hair , not on top but inside , where visibility is minimum, if you like it then go for it
Also you can mix two different shades alternately ...that if done well looks real hot!
They would be very pretty, but you might want to start with caramel colors instead of "bleached blonde" highlights. Don't start with heavy highlights. Ask your hairdresser to pull just a few strands, so you can see how you like the new color. If you like it and want a little more, you can always go back. My hair is naturally very curly, and I have had highlights. It adds to the definition of my hair. Just don't over-do it.

I got highlights 2 days ago and I never got around to asking the stylist if I had to wait a certain amount of time before washing my hair at home. Does anyone know if I have to wait a certain number of days or can I wash it now? Thanks for the help!!
ok lets say you got highlights on the 2nd and on that day they basically wash your hair for you so you dont have to when you get home but the next day you can start washing it. there is no such thing as waiting a certain time to wash hair. Just do it normally the very next day =)

Before, i had my hair black and so i would do my make up black as well (only for my eyes ofcoarse)
but since know i have brown with highlights.. should i stick with the black, change my eyeliner to brown, or leave my eyes with no make up at all
you should still be able to use the same makeup..if black doesnt look good use brown..
i have light blonde hair with dark blonde highlights and i tend to use dark eye makeup and it doesnt look bad to me
use the black eylingner brown looks bad
always wear black mascara and Liner you can always vary eyeshadow color
I have light brown hair with highlights also and i use black liner. you could try doing brown if you use natural colors then that looks great use brown on the top and black on the bottom
I would use a light black eyeliner and a goldinish brown eye shadow.
